The post we are referring to is a picture that 12-year-old Noor Khan posted while making dinner with her sister one night. Well, two pictures actually. Of potatoes. “I just thought, ‘I’ll put it on my SnapChat,’” explained Noor. Noor’s sister Maria asked Noor to help with preparing their meal, but didn’t expect what happened next. When Noor was peeling the potatoes, she took a picture of an unpeeled spud and posted it with the caption “People are like potatoes. The colour of skin or marks doesn’t matter.” She then posted a second image, this time with a peeled potato. This caption read: “Because they’re all the same once the skin is removed.” Older sister Maria shared Noor’s post on Twitter, and it reached a staggering 26,000 likes.
She says that she is proud of her sister and her thoughtfulness toward deeper meaning — even if it was through the use of potatoes. 26,000 people liked it too:
This beautiful message is universal. We all should be thinking beyond the color of our skin and deeper into one another as human beings. Children often have such beautiful and innocent insight into equality and thoughtfulness.
